Scripture

"And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go beforeyour face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up." (Doctrine and Covenants 84:88)

The Journey Begins

My name is Brandon, and on March 7th, 2012 I embarked on a journey that would change my life forever.

"Dear Elder Mortensen,

You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Utah Provo Mission."

Those words sank deep into my soul, and a midst the surprise and excitement, an overwhelming sense of peace enveloped me. I knew in that instance that I was exactly where God wanted me to be. That all of my hard work to get to this point in my life was worth every sacrifice. That night I got on my knees and prayed to my Father in Heaven. As I did, the Lord opened my eyes to the events that had transpired in my life. I could see the Lord's hand throughout it all. I thanked the Lord with all my heart for the great miracle He had worked in my life.

For a great miracle it was indeed. The Lord had undertaken no small task in getting me to where I needed to be. Luckily through the Lords perfect knowledge and wisdom he knew the time and place that I would need assistance and always followed through with this aid. I realized that this journey had actually begun long before this day, and that the Lord's hand had been present throughout it all. The Lord had placed special people in my life to help me find my way.

A scripture in the Book of Mormon came to mind in Alma 37:6-7 "Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls."

I am great-full for a loving God who watches over His children and knows them perfectly. I am grateful for our Lord and Savior Jesus who laid down his life for us, took it up again, and who lives today. Through my many prayers, studies, and experiences I have come to know that "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" is truly His church. That He has restored it in these days so that the message of His Gospel can be sent throughout the world. I humbly accept this responsibility to take this message and the love He has given to me and share it with the entire world by serving a mission for "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."
